Permaculture Barcelona Hub
Live & Exchange and Live & Study Programs
Greetings,
I recently signed a contract for renting a new space where I will develop the Permaculture Barcelona Hub. I have been working on renovating it with some colleagues while only living there part-time. The Hub is a big space: 220 square metres that include a classroom space, dining area, open kitchen and two guest bedrooms. When I first got the keys, the place was in pretty bad shape from the previous tenant. After two months of work, it is really starting to look and feel nice there!
Between now and late June, I am with my eight-year-old twins during the weekdays while they finish their school year in the Pre-Pyrenees village where we live (they will be with my co-parent on the weekends), then the three of us will move to Barcelona. Until then, I will be going to the Hub approximately 3 long weekends/month, as well as for a few trainings and gatherings. We will be there on and off until school starts in the beginning of September.
I’m looking for 2-4 people who want to live in the Hub from mid April until early September, and am organising two different programs that offer a chance to live and either work or study at the Hub: Live & Exchange and Live & Study.
How does the Live & Exchange Program work?
The Live & Exchange Program means that people are coming to live and to work in the development of the Hub. In exchange, they receive:
- A room in a very cool live/work space in Poblenou, which I think is the most vibrant and liveable neighbourhood in Barcelona these days…and the Hub is just a 12m walk to the beach! 😉
- Access to a wide range of in-person and online courses over a certain period of time (perhaps one year). I am currently developing the program for this year now, see confirmed events HERE. I’m also organising one-day events such as the recent Inclusive Design in Practice training – the first Hub event we just hosted! See the training announcement HERE and there are photos and videos in a gallery above that show the current state of the Hub renovation. I am also planning bi-monthly community dinners with local ecosocial activists.
- Depending on the arrangement, I can do some mentoring and skill-sharing
- A great experience of working together to develop the Hub!
Live & Exchange Program participants will:
- Make contributions to the Hub rent
- Provide help developing the training centre and online courses. I’m looking for people with some specific skills such as:
– Creating video and text content for courses and social media
– Posting content on social media
– Designing an online PDC with me that can be used for a wide variety of students, including refugees and migrants
– Admin work such as answering emails or working on budgets and finance
– Being a “warm host” for the participants coming to the events here during those 4 months
I’m also open to the possibility of people doing an exchange there that doesn’t involve the work above but something else useful to the Hub.
Live & Study Program
The only difference to the Live & Exchange Program is that instead of working on the development of the Hub, participants of the Live & Study Program are there to study permaculture and enjoy the experience of living in Barcelona. They will have the same access to in-person and online trainings and events, and the same living conditions, but they will contribute more rent than the people who are working on the development of the Hub.
These are my ideas, but I’m also open to people making proposals and co-creating an experience.

My proposal is that the contribution towards the monthly rent would be a sliding scale of €450 – €950/month/person, utilities included, depending on the participant’s financial circumstances and if they will do the Exchange or Study Program. Food and cooking will be self-organised by whoever is here, but we can order bulk food together. Two to four people could be here at a time, and the time of the exchange can be flexible depending on everyone’s needs and also how many people apply.

Here is the Hub’s crowdfunding campaign in pre-launch mode (official launch in April) where you can see and learn more about the Hub…and make a donation if you would like!
Get in touch if you want to be a part of launching this project! You can write me HERE.
