What's happening?

We invite you to be part of something new taking root in Barcelona – the Permaculture Barcelona Hub, a dedicated space for learning, designing, and living in deeper relationship with the natural world…within an urban and social context. We will gather for 4 nights / 3+ days of community, connection and celebration, welcoming in the New Year together!

The Kids Program

The kids activities will be organised and facilitated by Daniella Querol – artist, educator, and permaculturalist. Designed for youngsters aged 5 to 14, the activities encourage children to observe and connect to nature with their heads, hearts and hands through:

* Exploratory adventures: immersion in nature and discovery of the four elements — Earth, Fire, Water, and Air

* Cooperative games

* Sharing practices: talking circles, gratitude circles, and self connection tools (Sit Spot)

* Yoga and dance for children

English-language learning skills

* Permaculture and sustainability principles woven into daily life through small, practical activities such as gardening and cooking

Each day there will be both separate activities for kids and parents, as well as for the whole family together. The Family Adventure will offer a rich experience for children to mix cultures, languages, and learn from each other.

Daniella speaks fluent English, German, Spanish, and Catalan. Click HERE for more information about her work.

The Parents Program

Permaculture Barcelona Hub founder Alfred Decker will coordinate the plan for the parents. Starting with an opening dinner and finishing with a breakfast celebration, we’ll weave together many strands: hands-on urban agriculture in a local community garden, permaculture theory and vision, inspiring conversations, time at the beach, a visit to one of Spain’s most renowned ecosocial community in the hills above the city and a visit to an inspiring ecosocial hub in the neighbourhood, cooking and sharing meals together, encounters with local activists, and the kind of deep community that only emerges when people come together around a common purpose.

Alfred proposes to co-design the Parents Program together with the adult participants beforehand to best tailor the experience to their needs. For example, some parents may be happy that their kids are learning permaculture while they are getting a bit of a summer break, while others may want more permaculture training themselves!

The Family Adventure is an opportunity to connect with like-minded people from many lands, to help launch a space that will serve the international permaculture community for years to come, and to work on the future direction of permaculture in a rapidly changing world. We invite people to apply for a place on the Family Adventure by filling out the application HERE.

Fees & Registration

Your participation in the Family Adventure supports the early development the Permaculture Barcelona Hub — a permanent space for courses, skill-sharing, networking, and regenerative design in a vibrant part of Barcelona.

We are working out an economic model for this event and will share it here very soon. Please feel free to apply for a place on the training now and we will be in touch.

If your application is accepted, we can help to organise local accommodation options, or you can organise it yourselves.

Note about food: while we will try to cater to all diets, the Permaculture Barcelona Hub welcomes ethical omnivores and vegetarians, so the meals we share may not be appropriate for strict vegans.

Note about transport: we encourage Gathering participants to arrive to Barcelona by public transport whenever possible. There are fast trains from London, Paris and Berlin to Barcelona, as well as buses from anywhere in Europe. If it is not possible to arrive by public transport, we will encourage you to make a donation to a local permaculture-influenced regenerative tree planting project.

We hope to see you this winter in Barcelona!
